UNTHA presents a new generation of 4-shaft shredders
The Austrian premium manufacturer of industrial shredders – UNTHA shredding technology – presented the new generation of its 4-shaft shredders at IFAT 2024 in Munich. This is now the fourth new edition of the UNTHA RS series, of which 5,000 units are already in use worldwide to recycle materials such as electronic scrap, hard drives, production waste, plastics, batteries, aluminum profiles, and household appliances. The new generation features a host of new features that ensure greater efficiency, throughput, and user-friendliness. What remains the same is the premium quality “made in Austria” and the reliability you expect from all UNTHA products.
UNTHA is a pioneer in 4-shaft shredding technology and has been contributing to the economic and ecological recycling of various types of “waste” for almost 50 years. These shredders are used for volume reduction, material separation, and shredding to a homogeneous particle size. This rich heritage is accompanied by continuous innovation—technical progress that never stops.
"The heart of our shredders is their innovative technology. And with its continuous development – based on new findings, countless tests and the experience of existing customers – we ensure advanced shredders and sustainable customer satisfaction. The RS series has always been part of our product portfolio, and I am delighted that we can now present a new generation of these proven shredders," says Josef Kaindl, engineer responsible for research and development at UNTHA.
The new generation and its special features
The shredders in the RS model series – RS30, RS40, RS50, RS100, RS150 – have been successfully used for decades to support customers worldwide in the recycling of various waste materials. These shredders have now been upgraded. This primarily increases user-friendliness and reduces maintenance work and costs. Existing features have been improved and new ones added:
Thanks to the direct drive in all machines, the new RS generation requires fewer wear parts, reducing maintenance and spare parts costs. The integrated quick-change system for the perforated screen makes screen changes easier and up to 30 percent faster than with older models. In addition, adjustments have been made to the screen body and the cutting mechanism to increase throughput further and prevent foreign matter from entering the cutting mechanism. Access for service and maintenance work has also been simplified. This can now be carried out without special tools. The noise level of the shredders has also been reduced by eight percent to just 74 dB(A).
The improved electronics have been supplemented by a modern touchscreen display with a newly designed, intuitive user interface, which makes the shredder easier to operate and enables more efficient fault diagnosis and troubleshooting. The control system has been upgraded to performance level ‘d’ in accordance with EN 13849-1. The UNTHA GENIUS assistance system also collects process data from the shredder and generates real-time forecasts and suggestions to optimize productivity further.
“Tech Pack” special equipment
The optionally available “Tech Pack” provides additional customer benefits. This includes a more durable mechanical seal to protect the bearings, wear plates for additional resistance to aggressive materials, and digital oil level monitoring with automatic shut-off. Pre-tensioned cutting discs to prevent damage from non-shreddable materials and shaft ventilation to reduce contamination within the cutting system are also available as options.
