The UNTHA RS50 and RS60 shredders are integral parts of the processing lines at Bharat Forge Aluminiumtechnik GmbH in Germany. They shred aluminum burr scrap on-site, preparing it for a new lifecycle.

Bharat Forge Aluminiumtechnik GmbH, located in Brand-Erbisdorf, Germany, develops aluminum forging solutions for the automotive industry. With 500 employees, the company primarily produces chassis components. It is a subsidiary of Bharat Forge Limited (BFL), a globally active market leader in forged parts manufacturing.

The company recycles pure aluminum that is heated, pressed, and punched during the production process. The punching scraps and aluminum burrs are remelted in the company’s foundry and turned into new blanks. To prepare the material for melting, it must first be shredded. The company was looking for shredders capable of withstanding intense, continuous operation and processing hot aluminum.
REQUIREMENTS
Robust construction
Heat-resistant cutting mechanism
Low maintenance
Easy placement and integration into the plant

Bharat Forge Aluminiumtechnik GmbH chose shredders from UNTHA’s RS series. The RS50 and RS60 are used in two processing lines. The aluminum pieces, approximately 600 mm (23.6 inches) long and 30 mm (1.2 inches) thick, are fed into the shredders at temperatures up to 450°C (842°F). The cutting units and wear plates/inserts were specially engineered to resist extreme heat and reduce wear. Additionally, the shredders are fitted with an automatic central lubrication system. The processing lines—and the shredders—operate 24 hours a day. To ensure continuous uptime and reduce maintenance-related downtime, the company uses two UNTHA RS50 and two RS60 shredders. This setup allows for maintenance to be performed on one unit while the other continues operation.
The UNTHA shredders – models RS50 and RS60 – serve two key purposes at our facility: First, they ensure smooth operations in our production process. Second, they help us process punching scraps and aluminum pieces so we can remelt and reuse them.
