Based in Neu-Ulm, Bavaria, Karl Karletshofer GmbH is one of southern Germany’s leading mid-sized companies in the trading and storage of iron and electronic scrap, as well as non-ferrous metals. The company supplies both primary and secondary smelters with high-quality processed metals, playing a key role in returning valuable raw materials to the recycling loop.

As one of southern Germany’s leading metal wholesalers, Karl Karletshofer GmbH specializes in processing scrap iron, various metals from manufacturing facilities and wholesale suppliers, as well as electronic waste. The company’s goal is to properly process these materials to supply downstream processors with clean, single-grade raw materials for recycling.

At Karl Karletshofer GmbH, various types of metals are shredded and then separated into distinct material streams using a sorting system. This required a shredder capable of consistently producing a homogeneous, easily sortable output, even when processing materials with varying compositions. Key criteria included the shredder’s ability to be individually adapted to different materials and the need for an energy-efficient drive system.
REQUIREMENTS
Good material breakdown
Energy efficiency
Adjustable cutting gap
Homogeneous output material

Karl Karletshofer GmbH uses an UNTHA XR3000C shredder. This single-shaft shredder is equipped with a water-cooled synchronous motor, the UNTHA Eco Power Drive, which makes it both highly powerful and energy-efficient. The shredder can be customized based on the material’s composition, size, and thickness: the cutting gap and operating program can be individually adjusted, and perforated screens can be swapped out quickly using a convenient quick-change system. This ensures the material is always shredded to the desired granulate size and that operations remain efficient. Two rows of cutting blades, combined with a 130 mm perforated screen, reduce metal parts to a particle size of approximately 130 mm. Depending on the input material, the throughput ranges from 6 to 12 tons per hour.
Thanks to the UNTHA XR3000C, we’ve been able to expand our service offering. The reliable shredding of various metals allows us to deliver single-grade raw materials that are perfect for recycling.
