The UNTHA S25 is a compact twin-shaft shredder for reducing the volume of various materials such as metals, plastics, biological waste, paper and cardboard. ÖBB-Technische Services GmbH use this shredder to shred steel turnings and reduce their volume.

ÖBB-Technische Services GmbH is responsible for the management of rail vehicles throughout Europe: maintenance, modernization, assembling, engineering, new construction and refurbishment of vehicle components as well as the development of testing and diagnostic equipment.

During the maintenance and servicing of rail vehicles and their components, the ÖBB-Technische Services GmbH in Linz/Austria generates around 25 tons of steel turnings every year – for example, during the manufacturing of locomotive wheel sets. The company was looking for a suitable shredder to reduce the volume of these steel turnings and to be able to transport them in a space-saving manner and recycle them in a meaningful way.
REQUIREMENTS
Compact design
Robust cutting mechanism
Throughput: up to 440 lb/h
Integration into the plant control system

The S25 is UNTHA's smallest shredder – a compact 2-shaft shredder for reducing the volume of materials such as metal, plastic, biological waste, paper and cardboard. ÖBB-Technische Services GmbH uses this shredder to process steel turnings measuring up to 19.7 × 1.2 × 0.04 inches, which comes from a lathe. The material is fed into the shredder's cutting chamber via a discharge chute. The material is automatically drawn in by the cutting unit, which means that the shredder does not require a feeding system. The cutting principle of the UNTHA rotor shear ensures that the material is shredded efficiently. The S25 is driven by a direct drive electric motor. If unshreddable objects enter the cutting chamber, the motor is automatically stopped to prevent damage. Thanks to the slow-speed drive, the shredder is particularly energy-efficient and produces little dust and low noise emissions. The volume of the original material is reduced by up to 90%, which means it can be stored and transported in a space-saving manner. The UNTHA S25 was integrated into the existing control system to integrate operation with the lathe and discharge conveyor.
