Schenker Industrie- und Städtereinigungs GmbH operates in waste disposal, recycling, and the production of alternative raw materials and fuels (RDF/SRF). The company’s site spans more than 105,000 m² and houses 13 independent recycling plants. Each plant plays a role in transforming waste into valuable resources, helping to reduce CO₂ emissions and conserve natural raw materials. Schenker processes up to 150,000 tons of materials per year, including scrap metal, plastics, waste wood, and commercial waste.

The problem
Initial situation

For the efficient recycling of hard plastics, agricultural films, production scrap, waste wood, and bulky waste, the materials must be shredded into a uniform particle size.

Rigid plastics and films are especially challenging because of their rigid structure and the presence of metal components such as brackets or composites, which make them difficult to process.

Schenker required a shredder with a cutting system capable of handling a wide variety of materials, feeding material effectively, resisting damage from contaminants, and delivering consistent output quality.

The shredded material is then used either for recycling or for the production of refuse-derived fuel (RDF).

The solution
Why opt for an UNTHA shredder?

After several weeks of testing, Schenker chose the UNTHA XR3000RC mobil-e equipped with a 90 mm perforated screen. This powerful shredder handles a wide range of input materials and delivers uniform granulate in a single pass. A magnetic separator on the discharge conveyor removes metals from the shredded material. The RC cutting system ensures optimal material feed, precise cutting, and consistent particle sizes, all while minimizing wear and tear. The XR3000RC is driven by the UNTHA Eco Power Drive, a high-efficiency, electric motor system that uses up to 70% less energy than comparable diesel-powered shredders. Mounted on crawler tracks, the shredder can be easily moved around the site, allowing Schenker to reduce internal transport needs and process material directly where it’s stored.
